the works of david zink yi unfold a dense network of relationships and dependencies that spans a variety of media, including video, sculpture, ceramics, sound and performance. through an organically evolving artistic approach, ceramic objects are transformed into abstract photographs, patterns and color gradients formed by glazes are transformed into textiles and fantastic visual worlds, sculptures metamorphose into musical instruments.

after studying at the academy of fine arts in munich and the udk in berlin, zink yi developed an artistic practice that is characterized by an intensive exploration of concepts such as identity, corporeality, cultural hybridity and the relationship between man and nature. his works often questions established ideas and reflect the complex interactions between the various actors.

zink yi’s artistic work is characterized by a spirit of exploration that constantly challenges the material and explores its limits. in a dialectic process of chance and control, he orchestrates the properties of the materials to achieve a variety of results that expand his ever-growing archive. there is a stark contrast between the technical precision and the unpredictability that arises when mixing different oxides for the glaze or when the flexible earths solidify during the firing process.
