The American artist Joyce Pensato visited us in Berlin to prepare for her upcoming exhibition in Lichtenberg. Then we were told that FAHRBEREITSCHAFT is only allowed to exhibit Lichtenberg resident artists. As a result, Joyce’s exhibition did not take place.
Now we will show her work as part of the first Collection Night. The primary focus of this small exhibition, which runs for one night only, is the 2018 installation Big Ang Takeover. The large variety of its parts gives a realistic impression of her new york studio. In addition to her painted works, which deal with US-American comic figures, we will also showcase a large collection of private photos.
Joyce Pensato passed away on June 13, 2019. She was an exceptionally strong, socially-engaged, and positive woman who spent a good part of her life grappling with American icons and expressing them in her own imagery. We lost a good friend in Joyce.
